Slot Payback Percentages[edit]
On July 3, 2019, the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeal in Lake Charles rendered judgement on a dispute over the status of riverboat casinos as 'vessels.' This is important because the plaintiff, who sustained injuries while operating a scissor lift on a riverboat casino moored in Lake Charles, filed his suit under the Jones Act. The move to dry land comes with a caveat, however, as the state looks to use the newly-landed casinos to boost revenues for Louisiana's largest taxpayers, with the law requiring riverboats to. In the interest of growing a profitable riverboat gambling industry, Louisiana lawmakers have created a task force to review the state's 25-year-old riverboat casino laws. The Louisiana Riverboat Economic Development and Gaming Task Force will spend 18 months taking testimony from interested parties on ways the state's riverboat casino laws. Louisiana allows riverboat casinos to operate on land. On Wednesday a law was signed by Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards that would allow for larger onshore gaming floors for riverboat casinos. Under Senate Bill 316, the casino gaming floor can be moved nearly a quarter mile or 1,200 feet from the berth of the riverboat.

Slot payback percentages are acquired yearly from American Casino Guide Book. Louisiana state gaming laws require that casino machines must payback a minimum of 80% and a maximum of 99.9%.[5]
